Description
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders offers students the opportunity to gain knowledge in different areas related to communication. It is comprised of three distinct programs, each with its purpose and objectives.
Overall, all three programs in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders hold paramount an individual’s right to communicate, whether verbal or manual. The committee attempted to demonstrate the complexity of communication with this picture. We wanted to represent the nature of language acquisition by using the image of a child. We used headphones to represent audiology assessment as well as listening. Because language, both manual and verbal, is a cognitive function, we needed to represent the brain, which can be seen as the areas in blue and orange in the temporal lobe area on the child’s head. The images surrounding the child, like a halo, can represent the anatomy of speech production, hearing, and language processing (oral or manual).
