Jamie L. Whitten Collection Recordings

A Democrat, Jamie Whitten won a special election to fill a vacant seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1941. He continued to represent Mississippi until his retirement in 1995. Whitten chaired the powerful House Committee on Appropriations from 1979 to 1992.

This digital collection represents only a fraction of a much larger physical collection which is not yet open to researchers. Due to copyright limits, only a limited number of recordings this collection are available online. The "campus access" recordings may only be viewed on computers within the University of Mississippi Libraries.
