Description

Mississippi Association of Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioners luncheon in Jackson, Mississippi honoring U.S. Representative Jamie Whitten. Acknowledgement of VIP guests and introduction of Whitten by unknown master of ceremonies. Mississippi State Superintendent of Education Garvin Johnston provides the invocation. Lieutenant Governor-elect William Winter pays tribute to Whitten and describes the close relationship between their two families. Magee's Barbershop Quartet sings a medley of songs. Recognition of various state and federal agencies present, news media, and the arrangements committee. Tributes by the following platform guests: former U.S. Representative Arthur Winstead; Mississippi Commissioner of Agriculture & Commerce Jim Buck Ross; Kenneth E. Grant, administrator of the Soil Conservation Service in Washington, DC; George McLean, owner of the Tupelo Daily Journal; B.F. Smith, executive director of the Delta Council; Mrs. J.M. Martin, president of the Ladies Auxiliary; and P.L. Hughes, president of the Mississippi Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts. Concludes with remarks by Jamie Whitten.
