New Orleans Nov. 15th 1866 Dear Ma The Wuitman has arrived but one [several illegible words here due to a hole in the letter] of course disappointed my very much. I wrote to you by the Dr. which I hoe you have received before now. tell Pa I went to see Mr. P & he gave me a check for tow hundred and ninety tow dollars and eighty five cents (292.85) I then drew it and paid to Messrs Wheelock Finlay & Ball I asked for [illegible word] account they told me it was 324.20 I paid all of the Pilcher money to them of cours I asked for the account due before the last order. I also paid Petkin he and his clerk was very polite to and attentive to me told me if I needed any money to come to them an they would lend me as much as I wanted I bot waffle irons an box of tobacco 18lb at 60cts per lb it will be up on the packet this trip I tried at all the Stationers for your book but found [several illegible words here due to a hole in the letter] symptoms that I am improving under Dr. Richardson prescription I have a terrible cold in my head but it amounts to nothing. I have chanced pens a good many times I would like to have a little more money. I have not been extravagant. I saw Peter Berry the other day as I have a little business to attend to I must close this miserable written letter love to all Your affectionate [youth] Fred Bernard
