Interview conducted by author Jere Nash with Jackson State University political science professor Les McLemore in the process of writing Mississippi Politics: The Struggle for Power, 1976-2006. Topics covered include McLemore's background in Walls, Mississippi; Rust College and Holly Springs, Mississippi in early 1960s during the civil rights movement; family relationship with John Sharp Williams; African American community in Walls voting in 1967; Charles Evers 1971 campaign; membership with Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee; Lawyrence Guyot; Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party; Democratic National Conventions of 1964 and 1968; Fannie Lou Hamer; civil rights boycotts in Walls; controversial speakers at Jackson State College; Thad Cochran; Jimmy Carter's 1976 campaign; 1980 leadership dispute of the state Democratic Party; and McLemore running for Congress in 1980.
