Abstract
In this interview, Jamaya Coggins discusses her experience growing up in Mississippi knowing she was attracted to girls. Born and raised in Mississippi, Coggins discusses always struggling in her black identity. She points out the way in which she speaks and recalls always having white friends rather than black friends. Coggins discusses struggling with her sexuality throughout high school but entering into college as a confident queer person. Coggins speaks to the lack of queer spaces in Mississippi and her desire to see that grow.
