Description
Appalachian Regional Commission film on the poverty of the Appalachian region and the history of the agency. Includes discussion of the Appalachian Development Highway System; domestic violence centers; partnership with the private sector to create industrial development and new jobs; health services; education; the system of development districts that gives local people the power to make decisions on the appropriate program for their area. Ends with footage regarding the congressional debate over the survival of the Appalachian Regional Commission: direct appeal by Senator Jennings Randolph and clips from House committee hearings.
