Abstract
Intervention instruction is essential to address student deficits and increase grade-level proficiency and skill. This applied research study aimed to improve the Response to Instruction and Intervention (RtI2) Program. The need to increase the capacity of teachers/interventionists was developed due to the trend of students lacking reading academic proficiency needed to be successful once students reach grade three when they transition from learning to read to reading to learn. This applied research study was a collaborative effort among teachers and administrators to develop, implement, and evaluate the action plan using three elements: research-based practices (instructional strategies, curriculum, resources), professional development, and data analysis. Using the elements mentioned above and the contribution of various stakeholders, findings intended to improve the Response to Instruction and Intervention (RtI2) program and support increasing the capacity of teachers/interventionists who provide reading intervention instruction to second-grade students, leading to an increase in reading academic proficiency and pedagogical understanding.
